“The Picnic” by JAC

A lovely rendition by a guest:

Board the boat and we’re off and away
on a beautiful, summery day.
All ages aboard –
none will be bored –
we’re ready to cook, eat and play!

We land and we trek in on foot
Minding timber with uneven root –
Leafy green quiet as we move through the shade
noting earthly aromas within this cool glade.
We arrive where our efforts bear fruit.

The picnic crew’s not on vacation –
fire’s built, taters cut, onions peeled – plus bacon!
The monster frypan and a well-used pot –
grill surface and griddle – both really hot!
Make meals for which each is just achin’.

Step right up – get your home fries and steak
Lemonade! Your thirst will well slake.
Save room for dessert –
A blueberry alert!
Pancakes and maple syrup highly rate!

Take a swim or a sunbath or eat.
The lake setting’s more than complete.
Conversations that charm –
help from each arm
make this weekly event such a treat.

Our thanks to all whose hard labors
helped this gathering make us like neighbors.
Heavy loads were all carried.
People all duly ferried.
Andrew’s non-stop cooking each savors.

From the baskets to the big frying pan.
To those who prepared and who planned –
our hats do we raise
with heartiest praise
for The Waldheim most generous clan.
